I paced around the house like a mad woman as I waited for Pete to come home, but when he did he seemed strange, lost even. The look in his eyes was empty and scared, almost as though he had seen a ghost. His shoulders hung like weights and his lips shook as he spoke. Now I couldnt tell him what she said, or what I had seen that night. He couldnt hear it, not in his condition, no, I just couldnt hurt him. I told him that she ran away, that she was gone before I arrived home and that I didnt know what happened.
I know where she went that night, I know how she died. I didnt have the heart to tell Pete she ran away because she remembered, she remembered her life, her name..her accident. She killed herself that night, she leapt from the top floor of an apartment complex on the other side of town. I did everything I could to keep the news from reaching Pete. He never did find out how she died, I really think its better that way. In his eyes heaven was missing an angel. In his eyes she just went home.
